Yonkers Marathon Sunday Sept 18th

For those of you who have taken note of my biography, I like to

run

marathons.

This Sunday, September 18th, I’ll be running my ninth marathon, this time

in Yonkers, New York.

Did you know that this is the second oldest marathon in America, after Boston?

I didn’t.

Go and read all about it:

Yonkers, you say?

Why Yonkers?

Well, a number of reasons.

1) This is in training for the November 6th New York City Marathon, which I am also running.

2) For the part of the course that travels North, there is a nice view of the Hudson River.

However, one would not describe this as a scenic run.

It’s a two-loop course that takes you through Hastings-on-Hudson, through some blue-collar sections of Yonkers, along the service road of the Saw Mill Parkway, and through some truly downtrodden areas, too.

Perhaps I just want to remind myself why I love New York City so much.

2nd Oldest Marathon in America (not the most scenic)

3) It’s less than 20 minutes from my apartment!

4) The Jewish Holidays were not kind this year for my desire to run a marathon somewhere else.

As you can imagine, training in the hot weather is not great, but the reward is the cool Fall weather- unfortunately, all the neat marathons between 5-7 weeks before New York (November 6th) conflict with Jewish Holidays (Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur) -OR- I’ve run them before!

I just didn’t want to run the Hamptons Marathon for a 3rd time- been there, done that.

If you’ve read down here, I’ll just say that marathon is great training for most professions, Real Estate amongt them.

It’s a great metaphor for the Real Estate cycles, remaining patient and thinking big picture.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and all that.
Wish me luck!

I’ll be limping around showing apartments and preparing my marketing for a number of new listings next week.
